Our Founders
What brought together our prominent seventeen founders in 1989 is still today what attracts new membership classes to Omega Phi Beta. OPBSI thrives on the diversity of its members, and we attribute a lot of our success to our organization’s ability to embrace and celebrate each members’ differences. The historical marginalization of women, particularly women of color, has had a significant impact on the process by which multi-cultural, multi-ethnic, and multi-racial women ascertain educational, economic, social, and political success in American society. In response to this reality, seventeen women from various racial, ethnic, and cultural backgrounds synthesized their passion, commitment, and motivation. They formed an organization that would unify women of color who are dedicated to correcting the injustices that have and continue to affect our communities. Education, Diversity, and Community Service are the attributes these seventeen women incorporated into the organization, and to this day, they continue to serve as the foundation and spirit upon which all of the members of Omega Phi Beta Sorority, Inc. act upon.
